What in the world was he thinking?

With his feet firmly stepping on the pedals of his bike, Li Muze was having difficulties trying to wrap his head around Shen Tingmian’s train of thought.

He knew that Shen Tingmian came from a single-parent family. His father had passed away in the early stages of his life, so his mother took on all the burden of raising him herself, and their family conditions weren’t the most ideal. Do children in such a family situation all grow up with some sort of wound to their souls? But Shen Tingmian always acted normal in front of their other classmates — he’d joke and laugh with them. It was only when it came to Li Muze that he would act with slight indifference, especially after he was confessed to.

Shen Tingmian walked to school today while Li Muze trailed behind him on his bike. His upper body was slumped over on the handlebars and his uniform was sloppily untucked. With his brows furrowed and forehead creased, he stared at Shen Tingmian intently, as if observing a rare exotic species. Shen Tingmian’s bag wasn’t zipped up completely, and the packaging of a packet of bread peeked out indiscreetly — it was the red bean bread that was selling like hotcakes at the supermarket recently.

Oh, so he does eat breakfast after all. He’s probably just picky then.

Li Muze indulged in his thoughts with squinted eyes. If it weren’t for his clean and rather heart-grabbing appearance, he would’ve already been judged, or worse, reported for such degenerative behavior of stalking someone.

The small alley of Lin Meng was akin to a wondrous and dazzling piece of art.

There was a traffic light erected at the tiny intersection, and despite it being a working day, there weren’t many morning folks in sight.

Shen Tingmian stopped before the traffic light and turned around abruptly.

The unexpected eye contact with Shen Tingmian caught Li Muze so off guard to the point where he almost toppled over with his bike. He feigned composure and quickly pedaled to Shen Tingmian.

“Yo,” he greeted after coughing twice.

Shen Tingmian glanced at him and hesitated before deciding to not call him out, despite being aware that the latter was following him all along. “Mm.”

Maybe he thinks this is too much of a coincidence. Li Muze thought after scrutinizing Shen Tingmian’s expression.

But then it really was too much of a coincidence, wasn’t it? How could it not be when Li Muze would always be stationed outside Shen Tingmian’s home building at a fixed time?

He seems to be in a better mood compared to yesterday. Li Muze gripped the handlebars of his bike, his palms drenched in beads of sweat as he suddenly couldn’t muster up the courage to speak anymore.

The interactions shared between the both of them oozed peculiarity, but also some sort of odd chemistry. Somehow, they shared a tacit mutual understanding with one another to never bring up certain topics in a conversation.

Li Muze swung his arm, trying his best to start a conversation with the other party as they waited for the traffic light. “Why are you walking to school today?”

After his question, he rushed to bury his head further in the sand by adding, “Zhao Chen said you usually take the bus to school.”

Shen Tingmian answered in a soft voice, “No, I’m not taking it today.”

When the light turned green, Li Muze hopped down from his bike and pushed it instead to walk side by side with Shen Tingmian. “Jeez, you never seem to give a complete answer to people’s questions. Y’know, that makes people embarrassed to ask about more.”

“I’ve always been this way, you just got ahead of yourself,” Shen Tingmian responded.

“Ah,” Li Muze let out a disheartened chuckle. “I’m not complaining.”

Shen Tingmian was a rose full of thorns, being so fatally captivating. The fact that he was so conservative already gave Li Muze heartaches, so why did he have to rub salt in the wound by talking to him this way?

“Did you finish your homework?” At this point, Li Muze was just spouting whatever was on top of his head.

“Mm.”

“You’re awesome.”

“No, I’m not.”

“No need to be so humble now.”

“I’m not finished with it.”

“…Wow, you really paused for a long time before saying that, huh?”

Shen Tingmian’s body and soul seemed to be in constant discord, and it seemed like whatever came out from his parched lips hadn’t been thought through before. “That’s just how I am.”

The bus stopped, and people flocked forward to board it. There was a sesame cookie stall nearby that had a few students surrounding it, and among the dispersed crowd was a couple. They were holding hands as they chatted, and their eyes met Shen Tingmian’s when they turned around.

They maintained eye contact from afar and Shen Tingmian squinted, trying his hardest to gauge and acknowledge the sincerity twinkling in their lovestruck eyes.

Li Muze didn’t know what he was looking at nor did he know what he was thinking. He stared at Shen Tingmian discreetly, and whenever he did, it made him feel like a loser because Shen Tingmian felt unattainable to him no matter how close they physically were to each other. “I’m a boring person, aren’t I?” He rubbed the back of his ears.

“Not at all.” Shen Tingmian’s answer came in an instant as his expression remained a blank one. “You’re very interesting.”

A part of Li Muze felt doubtful, but another part of him wanted to believe it because Shen Tingmian’s unexpected compliment took him by surprise. “Oh.”

“You’re always right,” Shen Tingmian continued, and Li Muze had the bubbling urge to wave his hand in front of Shen Tingmian to make sure he wasn’t just talking to himself. “No matter what happens, don’t find faults in yourself.”

Holy shit, what does he mean?

“What happened?” Unable to contain his curiosity any longer, Li Muze posed his question insensitively like an idiot.

What could possibly happen? They were only seventeen. Most seventeen-year-olds would be in their uniforms, boarding a shaky bus on a bumpy road together as they headed to school before the sun rose. Every day was a repeating cycle. Adolescents their age were bound to encounter more trivial-than-none problems in life, so adults normally wouldn’t assume the worst of anything major or life-changing happening to them.

Shen Tingmian lowered his gaze to Li Muze’s clean, white uniform and slightly parted his lips before pressing them together again.

Ever since his confession, Shen Tingmian’s attitude toward him had changed significantly. He’d gotten colder, and his words for Li Muze grew even lesser in number, which would often leave the latter feeling confused due to how vague and ambiguous the things he said were. However, Li Muze was determined to not think of this kind of treatment as rejection. Surely he was thick-skinned and shameless enough, like a cockroach refusing to accept its tragic fate despite multiple attempts of extermination.

Maybe Shen Tingmian needed to go through the process of slowly getting used to things. Li Muze had more than enough time and capacity to wait for him.

Li Muze wanted Shen Tingmian to accept him and reciprocate his feelings one day — this was a dream he had yet to give up on ever since he began pursuing it.

***

After they went their own ways, Li Muze headed to the designated spot to park his bike. Despite feeling a little gloomy, his heart couldn’t help but do a happy dance because of their minimal interactions from earlier.

Well, we’re in the same class anyway, so there’s bound to be more opportunities in the future.

Never underestimate a teenager’s determination and perseverance when it comes to love, they say; to Li Muze, it seemed like being able to even confess and get his feelings across was already a win whether the other party accepted him or not.

However, Old Dog Liu couldn’t bear the sight of his lovestruck friend any longer. Although Li Muze would appear to be wearing his usual dignified and earnest demeanor, Liu Chao could tell from a glance that his friend was definitely out of it. All because of how preoccupied he was with the little love story in his own head.

“Dude, you’re going the wrong way.”

“If you like someone, don’t just focus on trying to prove how much you like her. You gotta think of ways to make her like you back too.”

Li Muze waved his hand frantically. “That’s insincere.”

“Who gives a shit about that?” Old Dog Liu scoffed in disbelief. “The techniques you use aren’t going to affect your sincerity, don’t be so naive now.”

That makes sense. Li Muze chewed on his pen as he tried to solve a math question.

Every student had their own designated desks in class, and whenever the seating plan changed, students would move along with their tables according to the modified seating arrangements. Li Muze, however, never harbored this sense of sentiment or belonging toward his own desk, much unlike his peers. While his classmates’ tables would be plastered with their timetables, his table had always been spick and span with no traces of his belongings.

But he liked drawing arcs on his desk with his compass, and every time, those arcs and curves would wind up forming Shen Tingmian’s name.

Tch, to hell with being a teenager craving for love. Yet, he fit into that cliche perfectly.

If he continued on like this, his unconditional yearning was bound to be unraveled eventually.

Li Muze had his own plans and course of action plotted out. For an entire class, he dwelled in the sorrows of his unrequited love before finally creating his own silver lining, which led to an instant boost in his mood.

He still didn’t have a game plan; he believed that his affections had no need for one.

Li Muze really, really liked Shen Tingmian.

His love for Shen Tingmian was like no other. Compared to his previous crushes, his feelings this time around were definitely more genuine and difficult for him to give up on. He’d never observed another person’s behavior and mannerisms so relentlessly before, and over time, he deluded himself into thinking he finally understood Shen Tingmian.

The reason why that piece of delusion even sprouted in the first place was that all the excessive attention he spent on Shen Tingmian had led him to discover the most minute differences Shen Tingmian had with everyone else.

It was only afterwards did he realize that he had barely grazed the tip of the iceberg, the outermost layer of the person he liked. The person he saw was calm, rational, and collected. He adored those qualities, a lot more than he should’ve. But he was unaware that the target of his affection had been slowly tearing apart his own soul and destroying his physical body, all while stuffing the pooled blood and skinned flesh he had dug out back into himself, trying to piece himself together to maintain the facade of the Shen Tingmian everyone knew.

The rose was wilting, but there was someone out there — its admirer — who was astounded by the elegance of its gradual demise.

PE for Class 3 was always a rowdy period.

Li Muze was leading the class into a jog around the perimeter of the field while occasionally telling off the guys who were fooling around as he yelled out instructions during the jog. Old Dog Liu’s favorite pastime was to cause trouble for Li Muze whenever the teacher wasn’t looking by joking around with the boys from the fine arts stream. Most of the boys in their class were athletic and had outgoing personalities, so friendly banters between one another were something they enjoyed. As for the girls, they’d exchange secretive whispers and giggles of the latest gossip with each other.

Long story short, Class 3 was not a class to take their jog as seriously as intended.

The PE teacher had a booming voice, so the students had nicknamed him Loudspeaker Deng.

He was trudging back and forth by the side of the field with his arms tucked behind his back as he engaged in idle chit-chat with the other PE teachers. When Class 3 passed by, he gave them a few words of scolding for fooling around, and consequently, the whole class proceeded to realign themselves into a neat formation. Their level of mischief when doing so was equivalent to that of chickens arranging themselves into a single file before voluntarily entering the oven proudly. 1

Loudspeaker Deng refused to let them relax. “Boys, give me 50 push-ups, now.”

The boys, with Li Muze being the only exception, burst into howling laughter after being cued before getting into position reluctantly.

“Twelve— Liu Chao, what’s up with you? Huh?”

“Sixteen— Zhang Tao, is the distance between the ground and your body more than 1 cm?”

Loudspeaker Deng counted out loud as he began nitpicking and humiliating the boys for their horrible push-up attempts. With every snarky comment made by their PE teacher, a fit of laughter would erupt from the boys like bubbles gliding toward the cloudless, glass-like sky.

Amidst the never-ending laughter seeping with teen spirit, Li Muze raised his head slightly and glanced at the bunch of sluggish and unserious boys wordlessly. Old Dog Liu was certainly having the time of his life as he began doing his set of push-ups with just one arm to flaunt his strength. Li Muze didn’t know who his lunkhead of a friend was trying to impress, but he couldn’t help but cringe as he cussed under his breath.

After that, he heard Loudspeaker Deng yell out another name. “Shen Tingmian! You—”

But Loudspeaker Deng didn’t continue his sentence, even after a long pause.

Li Muze was aware that Shen Tingmian wasn’t a sportsperson. He rarely played basketball with the rest of the boys in their class, and he’d always be at a standstill during PE. These were all instances that could’ve easily been observed by his classmates.

Shen Tingmian was practically sprawled out on the ground, yet he wasn’t complaining about it being dirty or whatnot. His elbows were perpendicular while his entire body rested on the ground as he’d occasionally lift his butt along with the teacher’s loud counting. His head was turned to look at the person beside him, but after being called upon by Loudspeaker Deng, he directed his gaze back to the front. Li Muze was doing his set of push-ups next to Mr. Deng and his eyes met with Shen Tingmian’s. The sudden eye contact sent a tremble down his arm, causing him to almost faceplant right into the ground beneath him.

His hair looks so fluffy, and his eyes are practically twinkling in oblivion.

FUCK, he’s so freaking cute. Li Muze squealed internally with his head hung low. How… He bit his lip and thought.

How can someone be so adorable?!

“Sir, your shouting got our beloved sports rep all sprawled out on the ground!” Old Dog Liu sneered.

“Twenty— Okay, okay, stop!”

Loudspeaker Deng’s anger reached its climax. “The girls are all watching you guys from the side, yet you’re still acting like such wimps! What kind of half-assed push-ups are you guys giving me, huh?!” He yelled.

He had a change of plans. “Since you guys insist on being so shameless, I’ll pair you guys up.”

“Wow,” the class president, Zhang Tian, mumbled with a hand over her mouth.

Meng Yuanyuan hugged her from behind and rested her head on her shoulder before throwing a glance at Shen Tingmian with a small smile on her lips.

Loudspeaker Deng’s new strategy made him the devil’s advocate because it required the boys to pair up with one lying down on the field while the other did his push-ups above him. The intimate distance between the two boys was a counteract against them slacking off because if they did, they’d end up sharing skin-to-skin contact.

Old Dog Liu refused to cooperate, saying it was too ‘gay’ for him to handle.

Li Muze, who was insinuated by what Old Dog Liu said, shot him a cold glare.

“Fine, Liu Chao will pair with me! Everyone here knows that I already have a wife and kids, so there won’t be any ‘gay’ stuff happening,” Mr. Deng proclaimed with his hands on his hips.

“Pfft,” Sun Xingpeng, the genius who would always rank first in class, let out a scoff.

Standing behind Mr. Deng was Li Muze, who had his arms crossed over his chest. He lifted one arm to rub his chin with his slender fingers as he chuckled, his body slightly hunched over from laughing.

“Hm, Li Muze is pretty cute,” Meng Yuanyuan whispered to Zhang Tian.

“Ooh?” Zhang Tian smirked deviously.

“Oh, piss off!” Meng Yuanyuan huffed and gave her a light shove.

Loudspeaker Deng was still busy pairing the boys up in between the girls’ chattering. “Zhao Chen, you’re pretty good at push-ups. Go give Sun Xingpeng a hand…”

“And you, Shen Tingmian,” The tall and sturdy PE teacher took a step back before gesturing to Li Muze, whose face was painted with bewilderment. “Learn a thing or two from the sports rep.”

Holy fuck.

Shen Tingmian had just gotten up from the ground and was patting the dirt off his body when he heard the teacher’s instructions. He glanced at Li Muze. The inside of the latter’s head was going haywire as he trudged up to Shen Tingmian without wasting a second. He frantically tried to avoid further eye contact by pretentiously admiring a little birdie soaring through the sky.

Under the teenager’s gaze, the little birdie gracefully dumped a load of its bodily waste before flapping its wings out of Li Muze’s peripheral vision.

“Stop your groaning!” Loudspeaker Deng gave each of the boys a kick in either their butts or the back of their legs. “You’re all grown up now, yet your limbs are built like twigs.”

“Sir, can you stop the girls from watching?” Zhao Chen muttered.

“Why? Are they affecting your performance?” Loudspeaker Deng asked.

“That’s ‘cause they keep giggling—” Zhao Chen replied.

Loudspeaker Deng gave him a kick in response. “Don’t you guys watch too when the girls do sit-ups? The one who gets all riled up after watching them is you, isn’t it? Huh?”

Amidst all the chaos, the back-and-forth yelling had turned into nothing but buzzing sounds in Li Muze’s ears. He willed himself to coordinate his bodily movements, but to no avail, he ended up walking to Shen Tingmian in the most awkward and stiff manner ever. No matter where he tried to focus his attention, all he could see was Shen Tingmian’s long legs, his uniform which clung to his body loosely around his waist, and the subtle scarlet hue along the edges of his eyes.

Fuck, I’m gonna get hard if we make eye contact.

Now, he who had a Yin and Yang personality2 was going to talk to Shen Tingmian in broad daylight. Only God knew what kind of dirty thoughts were running through that head of his.

“Alright, we’ll start with one pair first. Hurry up, get into your positions.” Loudspeaker Deng blew the whistle hanging around his neck while speaking mindlessly, “You guys better have already decided on who’s going to be on top and bottom.”

Li Muze almost ended up on his knees because he lost his footing as he walked toward Shen Tingmian.

The younger generation could no longer take the words ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ seriously without shifting them under the light of perversion; the boys were howling while the girls could barely catch their breath from all the laughing.

“Sir, why don’t I go first?” Liu Chao proposed, deliberately adding fuel to the already crackling flame of frivolity.

Loudspeaker Deng gave him a smile. “I don’t know, I guess it’s up to you?”

“Okay, fine. You can do the push-ups yourself, I have to blow the whistle,” Mr. Deng said after a short deliberation.

Shen Tingmian had always remained silent despite being surrounded by uncontrollable chaos.

The calmer Shen Tingmian was, the more it fueled Li Muze’s anxiety. With his feet rooted into the ground, he stood in front of Shen Tingmian like a flag pole. “Uh, why don’t you—”

He pulled his hands out of his pockets and shoved them back where they came from after making a few subtle gestures before they popped out again to express his body language once again. After a painstakingly dragged-out and awkward attempt, he finally managed to convey the full message he had intended to. “That, uh… How do you want to go about this?”

“You can go first,” Shen Tingmian mumbled with an unhappy expression clinging to his face. “I don’t know how to do it.”

“Oh, okay.”

Li Muze couldn’t help but steal a few more glances at Shen Tingmian.

Does he hate or hate or hate me?

Li Muze had no clue, but towards Shen Tingmian, he only had overwhelming love for him. His love was so passionate and real to the point where he hoped to swallow Shen Tingmian just so the latter could bathe in the love that was coursing through every vein in his body.

Shen Tingmian was a nimble person. He sat down on the field with his hands in his pocket right after he finished speaking, unlike the rest of his male classmates who’d lain down slowly as if trying to seduce their partners while teasingly requesting them to “be gentle”. Not to mention, Shen Tingmian was always exceptionally quiet amidst all the jokes and laughter.

He proceeded to lie down, his ghostly pale skin complementing the grassy field to appear remarkably greener than it really was.

His chest was undulating along with every shallow breath he took. Compared to others, his posture after lying down was too proper, as if he was a deceased person shoved into a casket.

But Li Muze’s thoughts couldn’t reach that depth of analysis, and he was only aware that Shen Tingmian’s visuals were ethereal and out-of-this-world.

He couldn’t bring himself to look at him as he squatted down beside him and pretentiously stared at Mr. Deng instead. However, he could feel Shen Tingmian’s eyes on him and he didn’t know what to do under such a circumstance, so he willed himself to speak up. “Sir, can we start?”

Mr. Deng blew his whistle. “Alright, everyone, into your positions. You’re not allowed to touch even a single strand of hair of the person below you.”

Li Muze was so nervous that he could die, and he didn’t know where to settle his gaze. Despite his stoic expression in the face of Shen Tingmian right beneath him, the amount of dirty thoughts zipping through his teenage head was nothing but shameful. His face was drenched in sweat, and the sensation of grass pricking his palms also clawed at his heart for some reason.

Shen Tingmian knew exactly what he was thinking about, and it wasn’t because he was good at reading people. Li Muze was just horrible at hiding his intentions.

Li Muze’s stomach was housing a kaleidoscope of butterflies. Every time his eyes fell on any part of Shen Tingmian’s being, butterflies would take flight out of his eyes, ears, and lips relentlessly.

“One!”

Shen Tingmian tilted his head to the side slightly upon the first count. Li Muze lowered his body toward him before swiftly putting distance between their bodies again. Unlike other guys, he did his push-ups with his hands clenched into fists instead of flat palms. Each push-up from him was clean and seemed almost fluid, which led a majority of the girls watching to admire and swoon over him.

There were a few instances where Shen Tingmian thought Li Muze was close to kissing him due to how dangerously close their faces would get.

He made it seem effortless. Apart from the occasional heavy breath escaping his lips, his face was also flushed red from the heat of exercising. But that wasn’t the case; Shen Tingmian knew that he was actually feeling very nervous and bashful on the inside.

Li Muze’s stiff body finally relaxed a little after a few push-ups. He became ignorant of the noise surrounding him and at one point, he began spacing out while staring at Shen Tingmian’s face.

His skin is so fair. He couldn’t help but harbor the thought.

Plip.

A drop of sweat fell onto Shen Tingmian’s cheek from Li Muze’s face. The latter was at a loss for words as he blinked cluelessly with a flabbergasted expression on his face. Unconsciously, Li Muze stretched out his hand to wipe off the drop of sweat before apologizing in a gentle voice. “Sorry.”

His face is so soft. Li Muze caressed the same part of his face repeatedly, and any sort of awkwardness he felt from the start had dissipated at that very moment. With such an up-close observation, he noticed the subtle redness around the edges of Shen Tingmian’s eyes, as if he cried often.

“Okay, done!” Loudspeaker Deng blew the whistle once again. “Change with your partners, and don’t tell people you’re students of mine when you’re outside!”

After hearing the instructions, Shen Tingmian shot up from his lying position and distanced himself from Li Muze. It was only because of Shen Tingmian’s actions did Li Muze snap out of his trance, taking a few steps back with his eyes darting around frantically and a face drenched with sweat.

He grabbed the front of his shirt to wipe the trickling sweat from his face, leaving only a pair of doe-like eyes wavering with innocence on display to look at Shen Tingmian.

Shen Tingmian broke the eye contact and stood up.

Loudspeaker Deng was making rounds among the boys who were sprawled out on the field due to exhaustion as he gestured with his hands. “Hurry up, stop dilly-dallying. Get ready.”

Li Muze felt like this PE class was nothing but a torturous endurance test.

It was Li Muze’s turn to lie down. Shen Tingmian’s arms lacked the strength to complete a full push-up, hence most parts of his body were pressing up against Li Muze’s, and the whole picture oozed sexual tension like that of a romance movie scene.

What kind of spicy training method is this?!

Li Muze was thanking Loudspeaker Deng a thousand times in his heart.

Most boys were typically more shameless than not, but Shen Tingmian was like no other. How he was feeling could easily be read from his expression. At that moment, he too was feeling awkward and uncomfortable, with parts of his face only seen in others’ peripheral visions reddening as well.

Li Muze couldn’t bear to look at him at all as he froze up like a stick beneath Shen Tingmian, his eyes rolling to opposite ends just so he could get rid of the person on top of him from his line of sight.

Loudspeaker Deng bit on his whistle and walked up to Shen Tingmian before giving it a blow with his hands on his hips.

Shen Tingmian seemed like he could no longer go on, like a thrown-away tin can that was wrecked and ruined before being disposed of. He carelessly pressed his body against Li Muze before pulling away again but the distance between them equated to almost nothing because, from a third person’s point of view, it seemed like they were glued together, unable to pull away from each other.

The people around them were all laughing.

Shen Tingmian’s body actually stiffened from the undetected mockery but he forced himself to adjust his breathing, just so he could appear nonchalant on the outside.

But his arms were trembling.

Loudspeaker Deng looked at his form helplessly and shook his head before blowing the whistle again. Shen Tingmian’s arms lost their strength to support his weight, so he ended up sprawling entirely on Li Muze’s body.

It honestly wasn’t that big of a deal to begin with, but the laughter surrounding him reached his ears like scraping metal, and that suffocated him.

At the same time, he heard Li Muze’s heart beating relentlessly through his eardrums.

Li Muze smelled like detergent.

Shen Tingmian sat up quickly. He could feel his heart thumping out of his chest and the impending doom of hyperventilation, yet he willed himself to feign composure and nonchalance.

Li Muze, like a spring, sat up as well. “Fuck,” He muttered under his breath, before turning to face Loudspeaker Deng. “Don’t scare me like that, sir!”

“How’d I scare you now?” Loudspeaker Deng asked.

“You blew the whistle right in front of us, anyone would get scared by that!” Li Muze’s face was flushed, and even his speech sounded slow-witted. “Just let us do our push-ups in peace, won’t you?”

“He’s even blaming the teacher,” Meng Yuanyuan giggled.

Loudspeaker Deng raised his arms in surrender and began walking backward with the whistle in his mouth. “Fine, fine, I’ll leave.”

“Sir is so nice to the sports rep,” Meng Yuanyuan said, her chin still resting on Zhang Tian’s shoulder.

“Li Muze really is something,” Zhang Tian chuckled.

Meng Yuanyuan let out a cough and removed her head from Zhang Tian’s shoulder.

“What’s up?” Zhang Tian asked out of curiosity.

Meng Yuanyuan tried her best to stay discreet. “Shen Tingmian is looking at me.”

Zhang Tian stole a quick glance, and Shen Tingmian was in fact looking at the both of them with a deep gaze in his eyes.

“I don’t know why,” Zhang Tian said to Meng Yuanyuan, “but I feel like he’s always unhappy.”

  1. This might be a bit confusing but for context: they’re fooling around and lining themselves up cuz they know Mr. Loudspeaker is gonna ‘cook’ (give them an earful) them for fooling around so the chicken oven thing is a metaphor for that ↩︎
  2. The “Yin & Yang personality” phrase is essentially describing how Muze has a good-natured face but deep down, he’s actually harboring dirty thoughts toward Tingmian ↩︎
